Mike Savage has over twenty years of experience in the patent field.
His practice is currently focused on patent preparation and prosecution, opinions, and licensing.
Prior to joining Potomac Patent Group in 2004, Mike was an equity partner for eight years in a large patent boutique.
He is experienced in patent prosecution, particularly for cellular and digital telecommunications, speech recognition and cryptographic computer software and hardware,
digital signal processing, imaging and fiber optic technology, and mechanical devices. Mike has drafted and prosecuted U.S. patent applications,
and directed the prosecution of their counterpart applications in Europe, China, and Japan.
Mike has conducted studies of dozens of patents, particularly in the fields of wireless telecommunications and semiconductor devices.
Mike has also assisted in patent infringement litigations in the U.S. District Courts, and he is familiar with the role of patents in the workings of standard-setting organizations,
particularly for telecommunications. Mike has negotiated technology licenses and contracts, and he is experienced in government contract law relating to rights in technical data and patents,
particularly CRADAs, in export control of equipment and technology, and intellectual property aspects of corporate mergers, acquisitions and investments.
Before becoming a lawyer, Mike was a senior engineer at Eaton Corporation, AIL Division, involved in the design,
evaluation and application of visible and infrared receivers for remote sensing, particularly laser heterodyne,
etalon, and Fourier transform spectrometers and their digital signal processors.
Mike received his law degree (magna cum laude) from Georgetown University Law Center,
and holds a Master of Science in Electro Physics from the Polytechnic Institute of New York and a Bachelor of Engineering, Electrical, (magna cum laude) from Manhattan College.
Mike is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, North Carolina and Virginia, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
