Ken Leffler first gained experience in the field of patent law in 1989 after having spent eleven years as an electrical
engineer and programmer for one of the world's largest computer manufacturers. His practice is currently focused on patent preparation and prosecution, as well as patent
opinions in the electrical and computer technologies.
Prior to joining Potomac Patent Group, Ken was an equity partner in a large patent boutique. During his eleven year association with that boutique,
Ken personally drafted and prosecuted a broad array of U. S. patent applications primarily directed to cellular radio phones and infrastructure,
short link radio telecommunications (e.g., BluetoothTM technology), circuit-switched and packet-data networks, digital signal processing,
advanced computer architectures, digital logic, and software design. As an enthusiastic amateur musician, Ken is also well informed about music theory and musical instruments.
Ken's knowledge of application drafting and prosecution strategies extends into the PCT, North and South American,
European and Asian patent arenas as a result of his directing the prosecution of hundreds of patent applications pending before those foreign patent authorities.
Ken has also studied and formulated a number of important patent validity and infringement opinions.
Before entering law school, Ken was first a Staff Engineer (eight years) and then a Staff Programmer (three years) at IBM Corporation.
As a Staff Engineer in a computer architecture design group, Ken designed and implemented the control logic for a number of IBM computers.
As a Staff Programmer, Ken wrote software for enabling IBM computers to communicate via data networks in accordance with the standardized Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) protocol.
Ken received his law degree (cum laude) from Georgetown University Law Center in 1991. He holds a Master of Science in Electrical
Engineering from Rutgers University, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (with highest honors) from the Rutgers College of Engineering,
and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology (with honors) from Rutgers College.
Ken is licensed to practice law in Virginia and California, and is registered to practice before the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office.
